MAN  GETS HOME LATE FROM THE FIELD… WARNING,DON'T TRY THIS AT HOME

He left home about 8:30 a.m. to do some work in his hanger at the field with his friends. On the way out the door he answered his wife's "what time will you be home?" question with "probably about 1:30, I'll have lunch at the field."

1:30 came & went, 3:00 passed, 6:15, still not home, finally at about 7:00 pm he rolls in the driveway, and presents his wife with a pizza, and begins the apologetic story:

“I finished cleaning the plane about 11:30, had lunch, and I started  home, when alongside the road I saw this attractive girl with a flat tire on her car. I stopped to help, got the tire changed, and looked around for a place to wash my hands. She offered money, but I refused, so she suggested that I at least allow her to buy me a beer. She said there's a tavern just up the road, and they have a restroom, you can clean up a bit. I agreed to stop, we had a beer, then another beer, then a couple more, and I realized that this girl was not only pretty, she was very friendly, and a good companion to spend time with. Before I knew it, we were in the motel next door .  And that is why I am so late getting home.”

His wife looked him right in the eye and said "Don't you try to fool me; you went flying, didn’t you?

Dear “Pilots”,                                                                      11/19/11

The Board of Directors of the Farview RC Flyers Club would like to thank you for participating in our October, 2011 Jet Jamboree!  As always, we have been humbled by the growing attendance and the friendships that we have made over the past five seasons.

Unfortunately, it has come to our attention, that some participants felt that a few individuals were operating outside the AMA safety guidelines, in terms of speed, and proximity to the flight line and pit area.

Humility and responsible leadership practices dictate that we self assess, in our capacity as safety officials, and club leaders, when presented with these opinions/concerns. You all know that we are under increased scrutiny, and faced with possible overly restrictive regulation from the FAA. It is incumbent upon all of us to police ourselves, and operate our jets safely, and sensibly. We can't afford to jeopardize the hobby we all love, our flying sites, or our clubs going forward.

To that end, we have decided that we are going to be tightening up our safety efforts for future events.  We at Farview have always wanted to maintain a relaxed flying environment during our events and during the regular flying sessions. Our flight line crew and CDs have always been more than fair with how we handled small safety issues, and because we want to continue to be fair, we would like to take this opportunity to inform you of how these issues will be handled in the future.

We have decided that the safe, responsible, and fair response, is for us to more aggressively enforce speed and safety line proximity rules going forward. The biggest concerns are low altitude, close-in passes, overall top speed and safety line excursions.

Top speed is cut and dry. 200 mph is the limit, according to the AMA safety code. We all need to try a little harder to make                  sure we comply with this. At Farview, we'll be watching, and we will have technology on hand to verify violations.

High speed low passes seem to cause the most concern. They will all be conducted on the far side of the centerline going                 forward. We need the extra safety margin to protect our pilots and spectators going forward.

Most safety line violations occur on takeoff and landing. We have a very wide runway, and this can be avoided by simply                 lining up further out, near the centerline or further. While the safety line is 25 feet in front of you, the center line is where                  we  would  like all of you to fly.  In the past the flight line crew has been somewhat lenient with pilots that fly over the taxi                lane  during takeoff and landing.   We accounted for the wind direction and strength and the fact that many of you do not fly               at our  field on a regular basis. Your spotter should also be able to assist in guiding you to not cross the safety line.

Please understand, we don't want to be police, but we have to protect our club, flying site, the hobby and most importantly the great folks who attend our events. To that end, first violations will be addressed with warnings and/or counseling, and subsequent violations will be issued appropriate sanctions, to be determined by the contest director.

We take great pride in the fact that you all have commented on how laid back our event has been, and that is part of why you return every year, and the event continues to grow. We never want to change that. However, we must be cognizant of the environment we are operating in, and respect the concerns that have been raised to us, by our respected peers in the hobby. Our intention is to maintain the excellent safety record that we have enjoyed over the years and in fairness we want everyone to know what to expect in the years to come.

All of the Farview members wish all of you and your families a safe, happy and healthy Holiday Season and we look forward to seeing you ALL in 2012!
